Ancient Egyptian inspired drop earrings, with colourful turquoise, lapis lazuli and gold effect beads.

I have named these earrings after Queen Hetepheres I. She was the mother of the Pharaoh Khufu, who constructed the Great Pyramid at Giza. I named these for Hetepheres, as among her grave treasures were a collection of beautiful silver bracelets, inlaid with a turquoise and lapis lazuli design.

Gold is almost synonymous with Ancient Egypt, and the use of turquoise and lapis lazuli as decorative stones is widely documented. Turquoise is sometimes associated with the Goddess Hathor, who in some texts and inscriptions is named as the Lady or Mistress of Turquoise. Lapis lazuli was used extensively in Egypt for jewellery and decoration but also for cosmetics and dyes for fabrics.

Earring hooks are made from gold plated brass, and are nickel, lead and cadmium free.
